bhcosmetics 14pc Party Girl Brush Set First Impressions/Review

neon lights...

A couple of days ago, a long-awaited package was left on my doorstep(well, not literally). I had been anxiously waiting for weeks for it to arrive, and well, I, so far, strongly think the wait was worth it.

The 14pc Party Girl Brush Set from bhcosmetics that I ordered online and recently just received includes a handful of makeup brushes for the face, eyes and lip. They come in a travel-friendly roll up case with snap closure for easy storage.

The first thing I noticed when I saw this brush set up online was the flashy metallic (faux) leather case. Now, I'm not really keen on extremely bright colors, especially if the color is more on the neon side, but I had heard so many raving reviews about this brush set that I really wanted to try it myself. And plus, the set was called Party Girl for a reason, right?

Likes:

The sleek case the brushes came with makes it perfect for traveling. I feel like this set is an essential addition to my makeup starter kit as it comes with just about the different types of brushes I would need to fully understand which type of brush I would need for a certain function.

Judging from the pictures I saw online, I initially thought the handles of the brushes would look as flashy and bright as the metallic case it came with, but they were actually toned down, and they were very pretty to look at and pleasing to the eyes(if you like pinks & purples, that is). If you're all about that pop of color on your vanity, this set is definitely a must-have.

The brush set includes: a powder brush, an angled blush brush, a foundation brush, a large eyeshadow blending brush, an angled eyeshadow brush, a small tapered blending brush, a rounded smudge brush, a classic eyeshadow brush, a small eyeshadow blending brush, a flat smudge brush, a large angled liner/brow brush, a small angled liner/brow brush, an eye detailing brush and a lip brush. That totals 14 brushes in all.

The bristles on the powder brush and the angled blush brush are incredibly soft. They felt light on the back of my hand when I tried them out, and they felt just as light when I tried using them with different powders and blushes. The powder brush and the angled blush brush also came with a brush guard each which is perfect as it would help the each brush retain its shape when drying after cleaning them.

Most of the eye brushes are stiff for easy blending. There is also one tapered eye brush perfect for blending out harsh lines on the crease. One thing I liked about the bristles of the brushes was that they were intact and not one brush shed hair.

Dislike:

The first thing I noticed about the brush set was they had this sort-of plastic-y type of smell because of the plastic case it was wrapped in. I figured that washing the brushes would probably get rid of the smell, but after letting them sit out and dry, I could still smell that distinctive plastic smell from the bristles. It has been bugging me ever since, and I'm not sure after how many wash will I finally be able to get rid of the smell.

As I've mentioned, I'm not very fond of the color of the case of the set, but I feel based from the different reviews I've read, most people adore the bright and reflective metallic case. So it really is up to personal preferences.

Another thing I dislike about the brushes is that it took me about 2 days for the powder brush and the angled blush brush to completely air dry after cleaning them. I let all the brushes dry overnight, and the eye brushes were perfectly dry when I checked on them, but the two previously mentioned brushes were still damp.

Overall, the brushes were pretty easy to use, perfect for starters like me, and would probably make a great gift. As mentioned, it has a variety of brushes so it works best for an everyday use, and it also works well for traveling.

The bottom line is... I would definitely recommend it.
